It was CJ and Sophie’s first time on a guided trip this last Saturday, and they did a great job! This trip was booked through Spinner Fall, with Nick Jackson as their guide.
All of the Outfitters are open and running up here on the Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam. Trout Creek Flies and Red Canyon Lodge have great lodging options, in mountain and desert settings. The spring fishing is great!
The dry fly fishing is still phenomenal on the Green River, although the cicadas are nearly done the fish are still biting on them. The Swart Brothers had a great day on the river and landed some real beauties!
Steve and his son Jake out from Michigan landed this beautiful 29 inch Rainbow on the a section May 5th. It measured 29 inches! And was landed on a size 22 baetis nymph. It is one of the cleanest rainbows we have ever seen on the Green River, Utah.
We had a great day on the Green River yesterday with Andy and Wyatt out of Maine. We landed several fish including this awesome double! We are looking forward to a drop in release flows starting July 5th and ending July 10th at 2400 CFS.
The Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam is at 6600 cfs until tomorrow, then flows increase back up to 8600 cfs for the rest of June. Small nymphs are working well!
Flows are still high on the Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam at 8600 CFS. Pat and Ralph Wood came out from California for a trip on the green with guide Nick Jackson and had a great time. Pat landed this fat Brown on the A section, nice job! Cicadas are out and about. Try a small nymph for the river.
The flows are high at 8600 CFS. But don’t let that scare you! The fishing is great and there is a nice BWO hatch on. Try setting up a nymph rig for the upper A section, and on the lower near Little Hole you should be able to get some dry fly action! Mark Wilson landed this beautiful rainbow last week.
Anglers are ringing in the new year with streamers this January on the Green! The weather has cleared up from lots recent fog and inversion, but still cold. If you are willing to brave the drift down the river in January temps the streamer fishing is reported to be great. The trout are also up for eating small midge patterns, and BWO’s in certain areas. Bundle up and get out there! Send us your pictures, and like us on Facebook www.facebook.com/dryflyutah.
If you’re looking for alternative fishing destinations in winter time, consider heading west to Pyramid Lake, Nevada- home of the world’s largest cutthroat trout- the Pilot Peak strain of Lahontan Cutthroat. Guides on Pyramid Lake report monster fish in higher numbers than past years. A small fish caught on this amazing lake is usually around 20″, and the more coveted size is closer to 20 pounds! Since the reintroduction of this massive strain in 2006 the largest we have heard of is 28 pounds and we are waiting in anticipation or someone to break that 30 pound mark! Put this destination on your bucket list and contact us for all your guiding, fishing, and lodging needs. Check out Pyramid Lake Guides website, like them on Facebook, and follow them on Instagram @pyramidlakeguides for the most up to date fishing conditions. Pyramid Lake Nevada is on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Reservation 25 miles north of Reno.
Jake from the fly shop at Trout Creek Flies sits on top of Diving Board Rock at the canyon rim above the Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam. We had over 1.5 inches of rain yesterday and Red Creek rapid is BLOWN OUT. Try a streamer or zig-jig today! (Photo Cred: Ryan Kelly)
